BMW Motorrad Reveals the New F 450 R

BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new BMW F 450 R, a lightweight and sporty naked bike designed for riders who want an engaging motorcycle that is also easy to handle in everyday conditions. Developed for the 48-hp class, the F 450 R brings BMW’s performance-focused roadster design to a more compact and accessible format.
Power comes from a newly developed 420 cc, fuel-injected parallel-twin engine with a 135-degree crankpin offset. The engine produces 35 kW, or 48 hp, at 8,750 rpm and generates 43 Nm of maximum torque at 6,750 rpm. BMW says the motorcycle delivers strong acceleration and responsive performance, with around 80 percent of its available torque accessible from as low as 3,000 rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a left-side chain drive. Shift Assistant Pro is available for quick clutchless upshifts and downshifts, while the optional Easy Ride Clutch is designed to make riding more comfortable in traffic, during low-speed manoeuvres and on winding roads. Despite its performance, the F 450 R is also claimed to be fuel-efficient, using approximately 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres. Its 14-litre fuel tank gives it a potential range of more than 350 kilometres.

The motorcycle’s chassis has been developed with agility and confidence in mind. It uses a tubular steel space frame, a 43 mm KYB upside-down front fork and an aluminium double-sided swingarm at the rear. The short wheelbase and road-focused suspension setup are intended to give the F 450 R quick turn-in and playful handling, while still providing stability for regular commuting and longer rides.
Braking performance comes from a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper, supported by a 240 mm rear disc. BMW Motorrad ABS Pro is fitted as standard and is designed to assist braking even when the motorcycle is leaned into a corner. Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and engine drag torque control add further support in challenging riding conditions.

The F 450 R also includes Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes, allowing riders to adjust the motorcycle’s response to suit different conditions and riding preferences. Its styling takes inspiration from BMW’s larger S 1000 R, giving the compact roadster a sharp and muscular appearance. A two-piece seat with a standard height of 790 mm is intended to offer a comfortable balance between accessibility and sporty control.
