Recent trademark filings suggest the storied Japanese watchmaker might be bringing back its iconic 1962 women's line. According to recent reports, Seiko Group Corporation has filed applications to protect the "Queen Seiko" name across Japan, the United States, and several South American markets.

A piece of horological history. Originally launched just one year after the famous King Seiko, the Queen Seiko was designed as a high-end, no-compromise mechanical watch for women. At a time when most women's watches focused entirely on decoration, Queen Seiko brought serious engineering to the table. It featured a highly legible dial, a prominent crown for easy winding, and the same reliable accuracy found in the men's lines. As more women entered the workforce in the 1960s, pairing a King and Queen Seiko became a popular "his-and-hers" status symbol.

Following in the King's footsteps. The timing of these filings makes perfect sense for the brand's current trajectory. Seiko successfully revived the King Seiko line in 2022 to massive interest from watch enthusiasts, and that collection has been expanding steadily ever since. Bringing back Queen Seiko would naturally complete this historic pairing.

What’s next? While trademark filings don't guarantee an immediate product launch—and Seiko has yet to make an official announcement—simultaneous filings across three major global markets are a strong indicator. At the very least, Seiko is locking down the name for a potential royal return.
