Renault Duster Hybrid Promises Up to 80% Electric Driving in the City

Renault is highlighting the electric-driving capability of its new Duster Hybrid, claiming that the SUV can run in electric mode for up to 80% of the time during city driving. The figure applies to urban conditions and may vary depending on traffic, driving style and road conditions. Renault’s E-Tech full-hybrid system is designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while offering the convenience of a petrol-powered SUV.
The Duster Hybrid uses a 1.8-litre petrol engine combined with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. Together, the system produces 160 PS and 208 Nm of motor torque, paired with an automatic transmission. Unlike a plug-in hybrid, the battery recharges automatically while driving through regenerative braking and support from the engine.
Renault claims that the hybrid Duster can deliver fuel efficiency of up to 29 kmpl. Its ability to rely on electric power during frequent stops and low-speed city driving could help improve efficiency in congested urban traffic. The electric motor also provides smoother take-offs and quieter operation, making the SUV more comfortable for everyday commuting.
In India, the Duster Hybrid is reported to be available in three variants, with prices starting at ₹16.99 lakh ex-showroom. The range includes the Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants. Along with its hybrid powertrain, the SUV offers features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a powered tailgate and Level 2 ADAS.
Renault’s 80% electric-driving claim is therefore best understood as a potential figure for specific city-driving conditions rather than a guaranteed everyday result. Even so, the technology gives the Duster Hybrid a strong advantage for buyers looking for lower fuel consumption and a more refined urban driving experience without having to switch fully to an electric vehicle.
