Ather Energy has rolled out a significant update for its 2026 electric scooter lineup, proving that bigger isn’t always better when it comes to battery capacity. The brand has introduced smaller battery packs across its popular Rizta and 450 series while maintaining—and in some cases even improving—the claimed riding range. A major highlight of this update is the introduction of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells in select models, which join the existing Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistry.

The family-focused Ather Rizta series sees the most notable changes. The Rizta S, which previously housed a 2.9 kWh battery, now features a smaller 2.7 kWh LFP pack without losing any of its 123 km IDC range. The top-tier Rizta Z also gets a 2.7 kWh LFP option. Additionally, its larger NMC battery pack has been downsized from 3.7 kWh to 3.5 kWh, yet the claimed range has actually bumped up from 159 km to 161 km, showcasing impressive efficiency gains.

The sporty Ather 450 series follows a similar trend. While the smaller 2.9 kWh variants of the 450X and 450S remain untouched, the larger NMC battery variant has been reduced to 3.5 kWh while still delivering a solid 161 km of range.

Ather is pairing these larger battery variants with a new, more powerful 900 W charger. This drastically cuts the 0–80% charging time down to just 3 hours and 12 minutes—a massive improvement from the older 700 W charger’s 4.5 hours.

Despite these under-the-hood adjustments, Ather has kept the core riding experience intact. The performance, underpinnings, and smart features of both the Rizta and 450 series remain completely unchanged. Ultimately, this 2026 update gives riders faster charging and optimized battery efficiency without sacrificing the ride quality Ather is known for.
