Audi A2 e-tron Unveiled: 646km Range, MEB Platform, and Bidirectional Charging

Audi has unveiled the A2 e-tron, its smallest electric vehicle and the successor in spirit to the original Audi A2, which was sold between 1999 and 2005. Like its predecessor, the new A2 focuses on efficiency, practicality, and low running costs. Audi claims that it is the most efficient production model in the company’s history, with energy consumption as low as 12.8 kWh per 100km and a maximum WLTP range of 646km.  

The A2 e-tron is based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electric platform, also used by models such as the Volkswagen ID.3, Skoda Elroq, and Audi Q4 e-tron. It will be available with four power outputs ranging from 168hp to 322hp, while torque figures extend from 350Nm to 545Nm. Depending on the variant, acceleration from 0–100kph takes between 8.8 and 5.7 seconds, while top speed ranges from 160kph to 200kph. All versions use rear-wheel drive.

Customers can choose between 52kWh, 61kWh, and 84kWh battery packs. The 52kWh and 61kWh versions offer claimed ranges of 423km and 515km, respectively, while the 84kWh battery delivers up to 646km in its most efficient configuration. The larger battery supports charging at up to 183kW, allowing a 10–80 percent charge in approximately 29 minutes. The smaller batteries take around 24 and 26 minutes under similar conditions.

Efficiency has strongly influenced the A2 e-tron’s design. Its rounded silhouette, closed underbody, aerodynamic wheels, wheel-arch gap reducers, and wing-shaped door handles help it achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.24. The compact hatchback also features short overhangs and a long 2.77-metre wheelbase, helping create a spacious cabin despite its small footprint.

Inside, the A2 e-tron combines recycled materials with modern technology. Key features include a curved 12.8-inch central touchscreen, an 11.9-inch digital instrument display, Audi’s AI-powered assistant, an e-tron route planner, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assistance, a rear-view camera, and parking assistance. A panoramic glass roof, a head-up display, a 14-speaker Sonos audio system, and Audi’s modular magnetic Fidlock storage system will be available depending on the variant.

Audi says the A2 e-tron uses more than 300 components made from recycled materials in some configurations. It will be developed in Germany and manufactured at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant, where the company plans to reuse existing production equipment, components, and robots to reduce investment and resource consumption. The car will also offer optional bidirectional charging, including Vehicle-to-Load and, in selected European markets, Vehicle-to-Home functionality.

Orders in Germany are scheduled to open on 10 September 2026, with deliveries beginning in December. Prices will start at 38,200 euros.
