As the Indian automotive market continues its rapid shift toward greener mobility, JSW MG Motor India has just dropped a major announcement that aims to give buyers more choices than ever before. MG has officially pulled the wraps off its new ADAPT platform—a highly versatile architecture that will serve as the foundation for its upcoming lineup of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs).

If you are waiting for MG’s next big launch, you won't have to wait long. The automaker confirmed that two new models built on this platform will debut within this financial year (FY2026-27).

What is the ADAPT Platform?

ADAPT stands for Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology. Unlike traditional platforms that are restricted to a single type of powertrain, ADAPT is a modular Multi-NEV platform. This means it is designed to seamlessly support:

  • EVs (Battery Electric Vehicles)

  • HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles)

  • PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles)

  • REEVs (Range Extender Electric Vehicles)

By integrating multiple electrified propulsion technologies under one framework, MG can speed up product development, improve design flexibility, and offer a wide range of vehicles optimized for efficiency, safety, and fast-charging capabilities.

The Tech Under the Hood

At the heart of the ADAPT platform is a highly advanced technology ecosystem tailored specifically for hybrid applications. MG has introduced some serious hardware to make this work, including:

  • 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit: A first for India, this compact system reduces complexity while boosting overall vehicle performance and efficiency.

  • Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission: A unique, world-first transmission designed to ensure smooth, seamless power delivery and a highly refined driving experience.

  • Dedicated Hybrid Engine & Battery System: Optimized to deliver instant electric response, high thermal efficiency, and lower fuel consumption.

Four Intelligent Drive Modes

To maximize fuel efficiency and performance in real time, ADAPT’s intelligent energy management system continuously analyzes driving conditions and automatically shifts between four distinct modes:

  1. Pure Electric Drive: Silent and responsive for city commutes.

  2. Series Hybrid Drive: The engine acts as a generator to create electricity while the electric motor exclusively drives the wheels.

  3. Parallel Hybrid Drive: The engine and motor team up for maximum performance.

  4. Engine Direct Drive: Optimized specifically for high-speed highway cruising.

What’s Coming Next?

MG has confirmed that the first two products rolling off the ADAPT platform will be an EV and a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid), both scheduled to launch this financial year.

With this move, MG joins a growing list of manufacturers—including Toyota, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata—who are actively expanding their hybrid and EV portfolios in India. By focusing on a multi-powertrain approach, MG is betting that the future of mobility isn't just about forcing a single technology, but about giving consumers the freedom to choose the energy solution that best fits their lifestyle.
