  • EU trademark secured for the Vespa Primavera's 3D shape.

  • Protection legally covers the scooter's ongoing design evolution.

  • Piaggio gains a strong defense against European counterfeits.

In a significant victory for automotive design and brand heritage, the Piaggio Group has successfully secured a three-dimensional trademark for the iconic shape of the "Vespa Primavera". Granted by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), this registration officially safeguards the scooter's inimitable silhouette for both two-wheeled vehicles and scale models across all 27 EU countries. This major European milestone follows similar trademark protections previously obtained in Italy and the UK.

The EUIPO's ruling acknowledges the deep cultural and commercial impact of the Vespa, a scooter that has been a global motorcycling icon since its debut in 1946. Crucially, the trademark protects not just a single static design, but the stylistic evolution of the vehicle. The ruling clarified that while the Vespa has naturally undergone design modifications over its 70-plus years on the market, these changes have never altered its essential, immediately recognizable core.

For the Piaggio Group, this legal recognition serves as a powerful shield against counterfeiting. By securing this comprehensive level of intellectual property protection, the company ensures that the classic, world-renowned shape of the Vespa Primavera remains exclusively theirs, preserving a legendary piece of Italian design history for generations to come.
