Renault Reimagines the Iconic 8 Gordini for the Electric Age

Renault is tapping into its rich 128-year history to bring a beloved motorsport legend roaring into the electric era. Following recent modern reboots of classic icons, the brand has just revealed the Renault 8 Gordini Concept. This striking two-seater electric coupé reimagines the iconic 1964 "Gorde" as a modern-day rally car, packing a 270-horsepower electric motor mounted at the back to preserve the thrilling rear-wheel-drive layout that defined a generation of drivers.

Embracing a minimalist "café racer" spirit, the design strips away the unnecessary to create a muscular, low-slung stance. The concept is wider and more dynamic than its four-door predecessor, sitting aggressively on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. Renault’s design team paid brilliant homage to the classic styling cues, incorporating a sleek modern interpretation of the signature "Bleu de France" paint and six round 3D headlights. Even the legendary double white stripe has returned, but instead of a simple decal, it now acts as a structural component that weaves its way through the exterior and straight into the cabin.

Inside, the retro-futuristic cabin is built purely for the love of driving. Gone are heavy plastics, replaced by sleek brushed aluminum and racing-inspired Alcantara. The dashboard features a clean, horizontal layout where traditional analog dials have been swapped for crisp, floating digital screens. It is a perfect blend of high-tech aesthetics and nostalgic touches, right down to the blue corduroy bucket seats that echo the race-ready interiors of the 1960s.

Car enthusiasts won't have to wait long to see this blend of heritage and future innovation in person. The Renault 8 Gordini Concept will make its grand public debut at the Paris Motor Show from October 12 to 18, 2026. Ultimately, this electrifying one-off will take its permanent place of honor alongside other historic artifacts at the upcoming Renault Collections museum in Flins.
