Seiko Drops Two New 5 Sports Field GMT Watches

Seiko is back at it, expanding its fan-favorite 5 Sports Field collection just in time for your next trip. If you've been on the hunt for a reliable, travel-friendly watch that won't require emptying your savings account, you're going to want to check out their latest additions: the HDB001 and HDB002.

These two new models take the rugged, clean aesthetic of the standard Field series and pack in GMT functionality—perfect for tracking a second time zone while you're on the go.

A More Compact, Refined Design

The first thing you’ll notice about the new GMT-equipped models is their size. Seiko opted for a slightly more compact 39.4mm stainless steel case, scaling down from the 41mm cases seen on previous non-GMT models in the lineup. It’s a very wearable sweet spot for most wrist sizes.

They’ve also swapped out the rotating compass bezel for a fixed stainless steel bezel engraved with a 24-hour scale. Paired with a bright orange GMT hand, tracking home time while you're traveling is incredibly intuitive.

You get two classic colorways to choose from:

HDB001: Features a deep forest green dial.
HDB002: Opts for a light, versatile cream hue.

Both dials keep legibility front and center with large Arabic numerals and Seiko's brilliant LumiBrite coating on the hands and hour markers.

Under the Hood: Specs That Deliver

Despite the added GMT feature, these are still robust everyday field watches built to handle a beating.

Movement: Seiko’s reliable in-house Caliber 4R34 automatic movement (with manual winding support).
Power Reserve: Roughly 41 hours.
Durability: 100 meters of water resistance, magnetic resistance, and a curved Hardlex crystal.
Bracelet: A comfortable 5-link stainless steel bracelet equipped with a one-push tri-fold clasp.

At 147 grams, they are surprisingly manageable on the wrist—even slightly lighter than some of their bracelet-equipped siblings in the standard Field series. You also get a see-through screw-down caseback if you like to admire the movement at work.

Pricing and Availability

The Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT HDB001 and HDB002 are slated to launch in Japan this August 2026 with a price tag of ¥61,600 (which converts to roughly $380 USD).

While Seiko hasn't officially confirmed global pricing and release dates just yet, it's highly expected that these value-packed travelers will make their way to the US, UK, and other international markets shortly after the Japanese launch.
