Seiko introduces HGK001 and HGK002 chronographs with sapphire crystal

Seiko has expanded its "Essentials" collection with the release of two new quartz chronographs: the HGK001 and HGK002. Both watches share an identical stainless-steel case but offer distinctly different moods. The HGK001 features a cream, grid-textured dial highlighted by a yellow-gold bezel ring, while the HGK002 sports a slate-gray textured dial with rose-gold accents. One of the standout design choices for both models is the faceted, octagonal bezel, which departs from the rounder bezels usually seen on Seiko’s comparable chronographs.

When it comes to dimensions and build quality, these timepieces pack excellent value. The stainless-steel cases measure a versatile 40 mm across, 11.5 mm thick, and have a 45.8 mm lug-to-lug span. Crucially, Seiko has topped them with premium sapphire crystal for superior scratch resistance and applied LumiBrite to the hands and indices for low-light visibility. Durability is further guaranteed by a screw-down case back that helps provide 10 bar of water resistance and 4,800 A/m of magnetic resistance.

Inside, both the HGK001 and HGK002 are driven by Seiko's reliable 8T63 quartz caliber. This movement provides a solid suite of traditional chronograph features, including a central 60-minute timer that ticks in 1/5-second increments, a small seconds sub-dial, a dedicated 24-hour hand, and a standard date window positioned on the dial.

Despite the lack of a formal global press rollout, these watches are beginning to hit the market. Pricing appears to have some regional variation, with Seiko’s official Philippines website listing the watches at PHP 30,500, which converts to approximately $497 USD.
