Tata Motors Extends BaaS Pricing Across Its Complete EV Portfolio

Tata Motors has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to more electric cars in its portfolio. The scheme, which was already available with the Tiago EV and Punch EV, now covers the Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Sierra EV and Harrier EV as well. By separating the battery cost from the vehicle’s upfront price, Tata is making its electric cars easier to purchase for customers who want a lower initial outlay.

Under the BaaS plan, buyers pay a reduced ex-showroom price for the car and then pay a battery rental based on the distance travelled. This can lower the upfront cost by as much as ₹7.3 lakh in the case of the Harrier EV. However, the total ownership cost will depend on how much the car is driven, the selected variant, financing terms and the financier’s conditions.

The Tiago EV and Punch EV offer the lowest battery rental at ₹2.6 per kilometre. The Nexon EV’s upfront price falls by ₹5.35 lakh, while the Curvv EV becomes ₹6.2 lakh more affordable under the scheme. The Sierra EV and Harrier EV offer even larger upfront savings of ₹6.8 lakh and ₹7.3 lakh, respectively.

Tata’s BaaS strategy could make electric mobility more accessible, particularly for buyers who are comfortable paying according to usage instead of bearing the full battery cost at the time of purchase. Before choosing the plan, prospective customers should compare the rental charges with their expected annual driving distance and confirm the complete terms with an authorised Tata dealership.
