When evaluating electric two-wheelers, the battery warranty is a critical factor. Most EV manufacturers cover manufacturing defects and electronic failures, but the fine print often reveals specific exclusions regarding how the battery is maintained.

A significant issue in lithium-ion battery management is deep discharge—a state where the battery is completely drained, usually because the vehicle was left unplugged and unused for an extended period. For most electric scooter brands, allowing a battery to reach this state is classified as improper maintenance or customer negligence. If a battery fails due to deep discharge, the standard industry practice is to void the warranty, leaving the owner responsible for the replacement cost.

Ather Energy has introduced a specific change to this standard with their extended battery warranty program (available up to 10 years or 1,00,000 km via the AtherStack Pro add-on). Ather’s warranty includes a clause they term "Idle State Assurance," which explicitly covers deep discharge.

This means if an Ather scooter is left idle without charging and the battery drains completely, the resulting failure is still covered under their warranty terms. This policy change removes a common technicality used to deny claims and provides coverage for situations where a scooter might be parked for weeks at a time, such as during travel or extended periods of non-use.

Alongside the deep discharge coverage, Ather's extended warranty guarantees a 70% State of Health (SoH) and covers electronic failures without a cap on claim amounts. For buyers comparing EV options, Ather's decision to cover deep discharge represents a notable shift from standard industry exclusions.
