Honda Electric 2-Wheeler Retail Sales Hit 876 Units in August 2026

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the world's largest two-wheeler maker, continues to struggle in India's electric scooter segment. According to VAHAN retail registration data , the company sold only 876 electric scooters in August 2026, slipping 6.71% from 939 units registered in July. This places Honda at a modest 14th position in the country's top-20 electric two-wheeler (E2W) brands list.
The numbers paint a stark contrast when compared to the market leaders. TVS Motor Company topped the charts with 48,875 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 41,019 registrations, while Ather Energy led the pure-play EV makers with 28,709 units. Honda's 876 units give it a negligible share of a market where legacy players TVS and Bajaj together control over 50% of total E2W sales.
Despite Honda's dominant position in the petrol scooter market with its iconic Activa range, its electric offerings have yet to gain meaningful traction among Indian buyers. The August data suggests that even established brands with massive dealer and service networks need strong product positioning, pricing, and charging infrastructure to compete in the fast-evolving electric space.
That said, the festive season ramp-up in the coming months could offer Honda an opportunity to turn things around. With rivals like Ola Electric, Hero MotoCorp, and Greaves also ramping up their EV portfolios, the coming quarters will be crucial in determining whether Honda can claw its way back into relevance in India's electric two-wheeler race.
