BMW’s China-specific i3 50L sedan has achieved an impressive range of 1,213 kilometers, or around 754 miles, without recharging. The endurance test was completed with just 1% battery remaining, highlighting the efficiency of BMW’s new Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform.

The sedan uses a 113.4-kWh battery and is officially rated for approximately 1,000 kilometers under China’s CLTC testing cycle. During the real-world test, however, it exceeded that figure by nearly 20 percent. The car recorded energy consumption of only 8.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, an exceptionally low figure for a large electric sedan.

BMW says the test included highways, national roads and urban routes. However, the company has not revealed the average speed or the exact proportion of city and highway driving. These details are important because the result was likely achieved by prioritizing efficiency and maintaining moderate speeds.

The i3’s sleek, low-slung design also gives it an aerodynamic advantage over SUVs. BMW’s iX3 50L recently covered 1,030.2 kilometers on one charge, but the i3 managed to travel roughly 183 kilometers farther. Still, the two tests used different routes and conditions, so their results cannot be compared directly.

This achievement does not mean every owner will achieve 1,213 kilometers in everyday driving. Weather, traffic, speed, road elevation and driving style can significantly affect an electric vehicle’s range. Even so, the test demonstrates how far modern EV technology can go when battery capacity, aerodynamics and energy efficiency work together.
