BYD Atto 8 Revealed with Ultra-Fast FLASH Charging

BYD has unveiled its new flagship electric SUV, the Atto 8, at the Paris Motor Show. Designed as a premium seven-seat model, the Atto 8 combines a long driving range, strong performance, advanced cabin technology and one of the fastest charging systems currently offered by BYD. The SUV is expected to arrive in European markets during the first quarter of 2027.

The Atto 8 will be available in two versions. The Design RWD model uses a single rear motor producing 462PS and 340kW of power. It can accelerate from 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in eight seconds and offers an impressive WLTP Combined range of up to 405 miles (652km) from its 115kWh battery. The Excellence AWD version adds a front motor, increasing total output to 775PS and 570kW. It can reach 62mph (100km/h) in only 4.6 seconds while offering a range of up to 374 miles (602km).

The SUV’s biggest technical feature is BYD’s new FLASH Charging system, introduced in Europe for the first time with the Atto 8. Using the company’s second-generation Blade Battery, the vehicle can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. A charge from 10% to 97% takes only nine minutes. Even in extremely cold conditions of up to -30°C, the battery can be charged from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. BYD plans to install 3,000 FLASH Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027.

Measuring 5,040mm long, 1,996mm wide and 1,760mm tall, the Atto 8 offers generous space for passengers and luggage. Its exterior features slim daytime-running lights, matrix LED headlights, a strong shoulder line and distinctive infinity-knot rear lights surrounding an illuminated BYD logo. The design gives the SUV a confident appearance while also supporting aerodynamic efficiency and driving range.

Inside, the Atto 8 is designed to provide a comfortable experience for all seven occupants. The cabin includes a large 2.39-square-metre panoramic glass roof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 26-inch head-up display and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. Google built-in services, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play, are also included.

Comfort features are available across the first two rows, with heated, ventilated and massaging seats. The third-row seats come with adjustable headrests, while rear passengers benefit from their own air-conditioning controls and cupholders. Depending on the version, the SUV can also be equipped with either a 10-speaker sound system or a premium 21-speaker DiSound audio system. A built-in refrigerator can cool items to -6°C or warm them to 50°C.

The Atto 8 is also practical for everyday family use. It provides 270 litres of luggage space with all three rows in place. Folding the middle and rear seats increases capacity to 1,960 litres, while a 136-litre front trunk provides additional storage for smaller bags and equipment.

With its seven-seat layout, premium interior, powerful all-wheel-drive option and exceptionally quick charging capability, the BYD Atto 8 is set to become one of the company’s most important electric vehicles in Europe. If BYD can expand its FLASH Charging network as planned, the Atto 8 could offer families a more convenient alternative to traditional petrol and diesel SUVs when sales begin in 2027.
