BYD Shark Achieves Top Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

The BYD Shark has achieved the maximum five-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP assessments, strengthening its position as one of the most advanced plug-in hybrid pickups in the European market. The result highlights the vehicle’s strong crash protection and range of modern driver-assistance technologies.

The Shark recorded an 82% score for adult occupant protection and 86% for child occupant protection. Euro NCAP praised its performance in frontal and side-impact tests, as well as its ability to protect child passengers during side-barrier collisions. The vehicle is also equipped with a child-presence detection system that can alert drivers if a child may have been left inside.

In terms of protecting vulnerable road users, the BYD Shark achieved a score of 74%. Its autonomous emergency braking system performed well when detecting cyclists and responded effectively to motorcyclists. The pickup also earned an impressive 87% in the Safety Assist category, supported by features such as lane-departure assistance, speed-limit recognition and emergency braking for other vehicles.

Powered by BYD’s Super Hybrid DMO technology, the Shark combines two electric motors with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It produces up to 436PS and 650Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 5.7 seconds. Its 32.2kWh Blade Battery also enables up to 90 kilometres of electric-only driving.

With seating for five, a comfortable SUV-style cabin and practical features such as Vehicle-to-Load power outlets, the BYD Shark is designed for both work and leisure. Available to order in the UK from £47,295 including VAT, it becomes the ninth BYD model to receive a five-star Euro NCAP rating since the brand entered the European passenger-car market.
