Honda Beats Hero in India’s September 2026 2-Wheeler Retail Sales

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India became India’s top two wheeler brand in September 2026, overtaking Hero MotoCorp in retail sales, according to VAHAN registration data. Honda recorded sales of 4,68,618 units, while Hero MotoCorp sold 4,34,442 units. This gave Honda a lead of 34,176 units during the month.

Honda’s sales increased from 4,49,763 units in August to 4,68,618 units in September, reflecting growth of 4.19 percent. Hero MotoCorp also witnessed an improvement, with sales rising from 4,16,096 units to 4,34,442 units. However, Honda’s stronger overall volume helped it secure the top position.

TVS Motor Company remained in third place with sales of 3,64,612 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 1,65,999 units. Royal Enfield crossed the one lakh mark with 1,01,936 units and moved ahead of Suzuki Motorcycle India, which recorded sales of 1,01,816 units.

The September figures show that competition in India’s two wheeler market remains intense. Honda and Hero continued to dominate the retail market, while electric brands also delivered mixed results. Ather Energy recorded growth with 30,479 units, whereas Ola Electric registered 13,449 units.

Honda’s performance highlights the continued popularity of its motorcycles and scooters among Indian buyers. With both Honda and Hero selling more than four lakh units, the contest for market leadership is expected to remain close in the coming months.
