VinFast Patents New Electric Scooter in India

VinFast has patented a new electric scooter in India, and this model could become the company’s first India-specific electric two-wheeler. The scooter does not appear to share its design with any model currently sold in VinFast’s home market of Vietnam. It is also different from the concept models that the company has showcased so far, suggesting that VinFast may be developing a product specifically suited to Indian customers.
The newly patented scooter follows a simple and practical design approach. It appears to use a rear hub motor, conventional telescopic front forks and dual hydraulic coil-spring suspension at the rear. These features are commonly seen on electric scooters designed for everyday urban use, as they offer a balance between comfort, stability and ease of maintenance.
The scooter is also expected to get a digital instrument cluster. At this stage, it is unclear whether VinFast will offer an LCD display or a more premium TFT unit. The design drawings suggest that the scooter could be equipped with 14-inch wheels at both ends, which may help improve ride quality and stability on Indian roads.
This new model could strengthen VinFast’s position in India’s rapidly growing electric two-wheeler market. Many electric scooter buyers in the country prefer practical scooters with familiar styling, comfortable suspension and useful features rather than overly futuristic designs. VinFast’s latest patent appears to follow this more conservative and widely accepted approach.
The company has already patented several models in India, including the Kinet and Viper electric scooters, along with the Rasad maxi-scooter and Sulad motorcycle concepts. VinFast is also preparing for its entry into the Indian market by signing letters of intent with more than 50 dealers across 15 states.
There is currently no confirmed launch date or information about the scooter’s battery capacity, range, performance or expected price. However, the patent indicates that VinFast could introduce a wide range of products in India, combining existing global models with new scooters developed specifically for the local market.
