Is the Suzuki SV650 Returning in 2027?

The much-loved Suzuki SV650 could be making a comeback in 2027 after being discontinued in several markets. The motorcycle, first introduced in 1999, remained an important part of Suzuki’s middleweight range for decades. However, it was dropped from the lineup in 2026 alongside the V-Strom 650.
Fresh speculation about the SV650’s return comes from an executive order filed with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The document suggests that Suzuki may be preparing to reintroduce the model, potentially for the European market. Although the filing does not officially confirm the motorcycle, it has renewed interest among fans of Suzuki’s popular V-twin roadster.
The potential 2027 SV650 is expected to use the same 645cc V-twin engine platform as Suzuki’s newer SV-7GX. That motorcycle was unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan and produces a claimed 72.4bhp at 8,500rpm, along with 64Nm of torque at 6,800rpm. If Suzuki carries over a similar engine tune, the new SV650 could offer performance close to the SV-7GX while retaining the character that made the original model so popular.
The connection with the SV-7GX also raises the possibility that Suzuki could reveal the updated SV650 at a future EICMA event. However, the company has not confirmed when or where the motorcycle will be officially introduced. Its styling is also still unknown, and it remains unclear whether the new model will closely resemble the previous-generation SV650 or receive a completely updated design.
There are also rumours that Suzuki may develop a sportbike using the same 645cc V-twin platform. If both models reach production, the new SV650 and sportbike could help Suzuki strengthen its middleweight motorcycle range.
For now, the return of the Suzuki SV650 remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the CARB filing and the shared engine platform with the SV-7GX suggest that Suzuki may be preparing to bring back one of its most recognisable and affordable middleweight motorcycles.
