After months of anticipation, Tesla has officially launched its highly awaited Model Y Performance in China. Following its initial global rollout in August of last year, reports had been circulating since July that the electric vehicle giant was gearing up for a Chinese launch. The wait is finally over, and early buyers can expect deliveries to take place within the next two to six weeks.

The new Model Y Performance is priced at CNY 369,000 (approximately $55,000), officially making it the most expensive variant in the Chinese market. It sits comfortably above the six-seat Model Y L, outpricing it by about CNY 30,000 ($4,400). Despite the premium price tag, the vehicle delivers the thrilling specifications that EV enthusiasts have come to expect. It boasts an impressive CLTC-rated range of 409 miles, a top speed of 155 mph, and can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in a blistering 3.5 seconds.

To support that high-speed performance, the vehicle is equipped with a 78.4kWh battery capable of ultra-fast charging. Using a 250kW DC fast charger, drivers can add around 155 miles of range in just 15 minutes. This launch comes at a strategic and critical time for Tesla. After facing three consecutive months of year-on-year sales declines for the Model Y line in China, the company is heavily banking on this high-performance model to boost its numbers, turn the tide, and re-energize consumer interest in the region.
