2027 Kawasaki KLX300SM Unveiled

Kawasaki has unveiled the KLX300SM, a lightweight supermoto motorcycle designed for urban riding, back-road exploring, and occasional track use. The model combines a compact engine with 17-inch wheels, road tires, long-travel suspension, and a narrow chassis. Instead of focusing on outright power, the KLX300SM is built around maneuverability, easy control, and practical street performance.

Power comes from a 292cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine with electric start. The single-cylinder motor is designed to provide smooth power delivery across the rev range, which is useful in stop-and-go traffic as well as on open roads. Fuel injection also supports consistent starting and throttle response in different riding conditions.

The KLX300SM uses a lightweight perimeter frame that is designed to remain agile at low speeds while providing stability during faster riding. Its 25-degree caster angle and short wheelbase contribute to quick steering. The motorcycle is fitted with 17-inch front and rear wheels along with road tires, giving it a setup more suited to paved surfaces than the off-road-oriented KLX models.

Suspension equipment includes a 43mm inverted cartridge-style front fork with adjustable compression damping. The front suspension provides 9.1 inches of travel. At the rear, Kawasaki uses its Uni-Trak suspension system, which offers compression and rebound damping adjustment as well as adjustable preload. These settings allow riders to adapt the suspension to their weight, riding style, and road conditions.

Braking is handled by a 300mm semi-floating petal disc and twin-piston caliper at the front. The rear uses a 240mm petal disc with a single-piston caliper. This braking system is matched to the motorcycle’s supermoto layout and gives the rider strong stopping control for city riding and cornering.

Rider comfort has also been considered in the design. The KLX300SM features an upright riding position, a thick-padded seat, rubber-dampened footpegs, and a 33.9-inch seat height. Kawasaki has added a radiator fan that directs hot air down and away from the rider, which can be useful when riding in heavy traffic or at low speeds.

The motorcycle carries sharp, KX motocross-inspired bodywork with a compact LED headlight and a streamlined front cowl. Its digital instrument panel includes a speedometer, bar-style tachometer, clock, odometer, dual trip meters, and warning indicators. These features keep the cockpit simple while providing the basic information needed for daily riding.

Kawasaki lists the KLX300SM with an MSRP of $6,049 in US. With its 292cc engine, adjustable suspension, 17-inch wheels, road tires, and relatively lightweight construction, the model is positioned as a practical supermoto for riders who want a narrow, responsive motorcycle for street use rather than a large touring or high-performance machine.
