BYD Launches the Second-Generation Seagull in China

BYD has officially launched the second-generation Seagull in China, giving its popular electric hatchback a larger body, stronger performance and more advanced technology. The new model is priced from ¥65,900 to ¥99,900 and is offered in five variants: Vitality, Freedom, Comfort, Flying and Intelligent Fun.

The biggest change is the Seagull’s increased size. The new car measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. It is 425 mm longer than the previous generation and now offers seating for five people, making it more practical for families and bringing it closer in size to the BYD Dolphin.

The second-generation Seagull is available with a choice of 320 km or 420 km of CLTC-rated range. The higher-range versions use a 39.2 kWh battery, while the standard versions use a 30.1 kWh battery. Power comes from a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing up to 95 kW, with a claimed 0–50 km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds. The car also features BYD’s Blade Battery technology, battery temperature management and vehicle-to-load power supply capability.

Inside, the new Seagull receives a more spacious cabin, a floating central display, wireless phone charging, rear air vents and improved storage. Its boot offers up to 1,380 litres of cargo space, while the front trunk adds another 94 litres. Higher variants also bring features such as power-adjustable seats, seat ventilation, massage functions and a larger 15.6-inch infotainment screen.

Technology is another major highlight. Depending on the variant, the Seagull can be equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye” driver-assistance system, lidar, adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, automatic emergency braking and automated parking. With its larger dimensions, longer range and competitive pricing, the second-generation BYD Seagull is positioned as a more capable and family-friendly electric car while retaining the affordable appeal that made the original model popular.
