Highlights

At the top of the leaderboard, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility continues to heavily dominate the electric four-wheeler space, moving 12,980 units in August. While this represents a month-over-month contraction from its 14,304 units in July, Tata maintains a commanding lead over its closest domestic rival. Mahindra Electric Automobile and JSW MG Motor India retained the second and third positions, registering 6,367 and 4,568 units respectively, though both legacy automakers experienced notable double-digit pullbacks compared to their July retail performance.

The most aggressive shift in market dynamics comes from newer entrants capturing retail share. VinFast Auto India delivered a breakout performance, surging by an impressive 43.53% to clock 2,196 units in August. This aggressive climb allowed the manufacturer to comfortably overtake Maruti Suzuki, pushing the domestic giant down to the fifth spot with 1,391 units. Korean automakers also demonstrated solid upward momentum; Hyundai registered a strong 34.18% gain to reach 797 units, and Kia posted steady growth to secure 637 deliveries.

In the premium and specialized segments, global players faced mixed retail outcomes. BYD India saw a sharp 32.42% contraction, dropping from 802 to 542 units. BMW India continues to lead the luxury EV cohort with 268 units, despite a volume dip from July. Toyota managed a healthy percentage gain to reach 161 units, while Tesla India Motors and Energy remained relatively flat, hovering at 111 retail registrations for the month.
