India’s electric two-wheeler market delivered a strong performance in September 2026, recording 2,03,760 retail registrations, according to Vahan retail data. This was a substantial improvement over the 1,08,476 registrations recorded in September 2025, signalling that consumer interest in electric scooters and motorcycles continues to accelerate across the country.

The year-on-year increase works out to 95,284 vehicles, or approximately 87.8% growth. In other words, electric two-wheeler registrations were nearly 1.9 times higher than they were a year earlier. The performance highlights the expanding acceptance of EVs, supported by a wider choice of models, improving charging access, and stronger brand presence in urban as well as emerging markets.

The September leaderboard also shows how competition is evolving. According to September 2026's Vahan retail sales figures, TVS Motor led the market with 53,990 registrations, followed by Bajaj Auto with 48,383 and Ather Energy with 30,479. Hero MotoCorp recorded 24,307 units, while Ola Electric registered 13,449. The results underline the growing strength of established two-wheeler manufacturers, even as newer EV-focused companies continue to expand.

The sharp annual rise is encouraging for India’s electric mobility transition. While monthly registrations can vary due to regional demand, product launches, incentives, and supply conditions, September’s numbers point to a market that is moving beyond early adoption. With more manufacturers entering the segment and consumers becoming increasingly familiar with EV ownership, electric two-wheelers are likely to remain one of the key drivers of India’s clean-mobility growth.
