Honda has edged past Suzuki in India's electric two-wheeler market for August 2026, according to the latest VAHAN retail registration data. While both Japanese giants remain relatively small players in the booming EV space, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India registered 876 units during the month, securing the 14th spot among the top 20 brands. Suzuki Motorcycle India, on the other hand, trailed behind at 16th place with 667 units sold.

The margin may be narrow, but the numbers tell contrasting stories. Honda saw a modest 6.71% decline from its July tally of 939 units, reflecting some pressure in a market where most legacy and new-age players posted negative month-on-month growth. Suzuki, however, actually grew by 10.25% compared to July's 605 units, suggesting a fledgling uptick in demand even as it remained behind its rival in absolute volumes.

Context is everything in this race. The Indian E2W market in August 2026 was dominated by homegrown powerhouses TVS and Bajaj Auto, which together commanded over 50% market share. Pure-play EV brands like Ather Energy and Ola Electric also maintained strong positions ahead of both Honda and Suzuki. For the two Japanese manufacturers, the challenge remains scaling up their electric portfolios and distribution networks to compete with entrenched leaders. Still, for now, Honda holds the bragging rights in this quiet but notable intra-rivalry within the EV transition.
