The localized electric SUV segment is witnessing a completely lopsided battle, with Maruti Suzuki's e-Vitara dominating its mechanical twin, the Toyota Urban Cruiser e-Bella. According to the latest VAHAN retail registration data for July and August 2026, the sales gap between these two shared-platform electric vehicles is staggering, with the Maruti model outselling the Toyota by more than 10 times over the two-month period.
Looking strictly at the retail numbers, Maruti Suzuki moved 1,391 EV units in August and 1,665 in July. In stark contrast, Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered a mere 161 units in August and 124 in July. The e-Vitara consistently dwarfed the e-Bella's volume, leaving the Toyota derivative struggling to gain any real market traction.
The primary driver behind this massive disparity is an incredibly steep pricing gap. The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara hits the sweet spot for early EV adopters, starting at a highly competitive ₹16.19 lakh (ex-showroom) and topping out at ₹20.21 lakh. The Toyota e-Bella, however, commands a seemingly unjustifiable premium, with prices starting much higher at around ₹23.60 lakh.
For consumers, the math is simple. Both vehicles share the identical electric skateboard architecture, battery capacity, and core features. Buyers are refusing to pay a nearly ₹3.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh premium merely for a Toyota badge and a tweaked front fascia. When combined with Maruti’s unmatched pan-India dealership density, the aggressively priced e-Vitara easily cannibalizes its overpriced sibling.
