Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India crossed an important milestone in the electric two-wheeler market by recording monthly sales of more than 1,000 units for the first time in September 2026. According to Vahan retail sales data , Honda sold 1,100 electric two-wheelers during the month, compared with 882 units in August.

This represents a 24.7% month-on-month increase and places Honda at 14th among the top 20 electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India. Although the figure is modest compared with the sales of market leaders such as TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp, crossing the 1,000-unit mark is still a notable achievement for Honda.

However, Honda’s entry into the electric vehicle space has come relatively late. Several established competitors have already built strong electric scooter portfolios, expanded their charging networks and established a significant presence in the market. As a result, Honda now faces intense competition not only from traditional two-wheeler manufacturers but also from electric vehicle-focused companies that entered the segment much earlier.

Honda can nevertheless rely on its strong brand image, wide dealer network and large existing customer base. These advantages may help the company attract buyers who are looking for the reliability and service support associated with a well-known manufacturer. To close the gap with its rivals, Honda will need to expand its electric product range, improve availability and offer competitive pricing and features.

The September sales figure suggests that Honda is slowly gaining momentum, but the company still has considerable ground to cover. Crossing 1,000 units could be the beginning of a stronger EV strategy, though Honda will need to move faster if it wants to remain competitive in India’s rapidly expanding electric two-wheeler market.
