New Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launched at ₹2.29 Lakh

Royal Enfield has officially pulled the covers off the highly anticipated Himalayan 440. Aimed at riders looking for a cost-effective alternative to the premium Himalayan 450 while still getting a solid upgrade over the older 411 model, the new adventure motorcycle is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). The bike comes in a single variant available in three striking colors—Mustang Brown, Nela White, and Sela Black—all of which carry the exact same price tag.

At the heart of the Himalayan 440 is the upgraded engine it shares with the Scram 440. Thanks to a 3mm larger bore, the motor now produces 25.4hp and 34Nm of torque, marking a modest bump of 1.4hp and 2Nm over the old Himalayan 411. More importantly, the power is tuned for low-end grunt, with 90 percent of the torque kicking in as early as 2,800rpm. Mated to a new 6-speed transmission and paired with a 15-litre fuel tank, the new ADV is built to handle long highway stints with far less effort, though it misses out on a slipper clutch.

While the powertrain is shared with the Scram 440, the Himalayan 440 features distinctly off-road-focused hardware. It rides on a 21-inch front spoke wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, ditching the alloy setup seen on the road-based Scram. The suspension has also been tweaked to offer 200mm of travel at the front (10mm more than the Scram) and 180mm at the rear. Visually, the cockpit gets a refresh with a new, simplified twin-pod instrument cluster that includes a speedometer and Royal Enfield's familiar Tripper navigation pod.

Stopping duties are handled by a 300mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, backed by standard dual-channel ABS where the rear can be switched off for off-road sliding. Despite the upgrades, the bike has gained some mass, now tipping the scales at 199kg. To sweeten the deal and boost buyer confidence, Royal Enfield is rolling out an impressive 7-year extended warranty for the Himalayan 440 (3 years standard plus 4 years extended). Bookings are already open online and at dealerships nationwide, with deliveries expected to commence very soon.
