The highly anticipated Yamaha YZF-R2 has officially hit the Indian market, bringing a fresh surge of adrenaline to the supersport segment. With aggressive pricing starting at Rs. 2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the R2 promises to bridge the gap for riders looking for an upgrade from the beloved R15, delivering a compelling mix of performance, cutting-edge design, and advanced features.
Available in three variants, the new R2 caters to different rider preferences and budgets, with deliveries slated to commence in mid-September 2026.
At the heart of the YZF-R2 is a brand-new 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out an impressive 26.1 bhp and 19.1 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch comes as standard equipment across the range. For riders seeking seamless gear changes, Yamaha is offering a bi-directional quickshifter as standard on the mid-spec and top-tier ‘M’ variants, enhancing both track and street performance.
Aesthetically, the R2 takes design cues from Yamaha’s larger R-series motorcycles, featuring a sharper and more aggressive headlight section compared to the R15. Built around Yamaha’s proven diamond frame, the bike is suspended by premium inverted front forks and a rear monoshock. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with front and rear disc brakes ensuring reliable stopping power. The top-end YZF-R2 M variant takes it a step further with an adjustable front fork, rear shock absorber, and adjustable clutch and brake levers for a tailored riding experience.

In terms of technology, the YZF-R2 does not disappoint. A full-color TFT console with smartphone connectivity is standard across the board, alongside a Traction Control System and three distinct riding modes: Street, Sport, and Rain. The flagship M variant adds a touch of modern convenience with a Smart Key System for keyless ignition. Entering a fiercely competitive space, the Yamaha R2 is geared up to rival strong contenders like the KTM RC 200.
