Flex-fuel two-wheeler sales in India remained concentrated among a small number of manufacturers in August 2026, according to Vahan retail data. Hero MotoCorp emerged as the clear leader in the segment, retailing 2,436 flex-fuel motorcycles during the month.
Yamaha, in comparison, recorded sales of only 8 flex-fuel two-wheelers in August 2026. The significant difference between the two manufacturers reflects Hero MotoCorp’s stronger presence and wider availability of flex-fuel models in the market.
The data indicates that flex-fuel motorcycles are still at an early stage of adoption in India. While flex-fuel technology can allow vehicles to run on petrol blended with higher levels of ethanol, customer awareness, fuel availability and model choice will play an important role in determining future demand.
Hero MotoCorp’s August performance suggests that it currently has a substantial lead in the flex-fuel two-wheeler space. However, Yamaha’s limited sales also show that the segment has yet to see broad-based participation from manufacturers. As more models are introduced and the supporting fuel infrastructure expands, flex-fuel two-wheelers could gradually gain wider acceptance among Indian buyers.
