VinFast has delivered a strong performance in India’s electric car market, outselling both Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki in September 2026, according to September's Vahan retail registration data. The Vietnamese electric vehicle maker recorded 2,961 retail sales during the month, placing it fourth among India’s leading electric passenger-vehicle brands.

VinFast’s September performance also marked a significant month-on-month improvement. The company had registered 2,239 units in August, meaning its sales increased by approximately 32.25% in September. The growth highlights rising consumer interest in its electric SUV range, including the VF 6 and VF 7.

In comparison, Maruti Suzuki registered 1,095 electric cars, while Hyundai recorded 789 units during the same period. Maruti Suzuki’s sales declined from 1,472 units in August, whereas Hyundai also saw a marginal drop from 840 units. VinFast’s stronger performance indicates that newer EV-focused brands are beginning to gain ground against established automakers.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility continued to lead the market with 14,722 units, followed by Mahindra Electric with 7,741 units and MG Motor with 5,226 units. While VinFast still has a considerable gap to close with the top three manufacturers, its latest numbers show that the brand is quickly establishing itself in India’s competitive electric car market.

The September figures suggest that VinFast’s expanding presence, locally assembled vehicles and growing product lineup are helping it attract Indian EV buyers. If this momentum continues, the company could become an even stronger challenger to traditional automakers in the months ahead.
