Xiaomi's entry into the electric vehicle market has officially proven to be a massive success. Just 28.5 months after the launch of its debut EV, the SU7, in March 2024, the tech giant is celebrating a staggering 500,000 units sold. This achievement is a huge milestone for any carmaker, but it is especially impressive for a company fresh to the automotive industry. In fact, the SU7 may be the fastest Chinese EV priced above CNY 200,000 (roughly $30,000) to ever reach the half-million sales mark.

To celebrate the massive achievement, Xiaomi is giving away 10,000 1:43 scale model cars of the SU7 to customers who book a test drive, on a first-come, first-served basis. Despite the introduction of newer models like the YU7 over the past year, the newly refreshed SU7 remains the reigning champion in the company's lineup. In July alone, it accounted for an impressive 67.3% of Xiaomi's auto sales, moving over 21,000 units.

The future looks just as bright for Xiaomi's automotive ambitions. CEO Lei Jun recently revealed that the company's cumulative sales across its entire lineup have surpassed 700,000 units. Wall Street is taking notice too, with analysts at Goldman Sachs projecting that Xiaomi will ship 500,000 cars this year alone, growing to 770,000 by 2027, and crossing the one-million-unit threshold by 2028.
